I love all kinds of music, provided it is good. In 1978, a year before I arrived in America I tuned in the classical station in Caracas, Venezuela and immediately rushed to my tape recorder. Something very unusual was playing. For an hour and a half I was in heaven. I had never heard such a gorgeous opera. My best guess was Victor Herbert. Boy was I stunned when it turned out to be Scott Joplin's "Treemonisha". I wore out the tape, listening to it at least fifty times. As soon as I arrived in America I got his piano music and was not disappointed. Joplin is a giant in music, and not just American music. Thanks for honoring this very great soul, who is not remembered as much as he should be.
